A University of Connecticut Health Center data breach impacts 1,400 patients

13 March 2013

The University of Connecticut Health Center says a former employee inappropriately accessed approximately 1,400 patient records that included names, addresses, dates of birth and in some cases, Social Security numbers and other health information.

UConn Health Center officials say they became aware of the data breach Jan. 7 and have found no evidence that the patient data has been used inappropriately.

All patients impacted by the breach are being notified by the Health Center and will be eligible for a free, two-year subscription to a credit monitoring service along with insurance coverage to assist with any possible identity theft related to the breach.
